OVERVIEW

A full vertical stack on the doorstep of the United States

Tijuana is Tutamen's North American manufacturing anchor. Sited as a Maquiladora inside a Free Trade Zone, with USMCA-qualified "Made in Mexico" origin and a US warehouse minutes across the border, this is where customers go when the answer to where should we build this? needs to be not China, not behind a tariff, not far from our team.

The current footprint is four specialised plants — injection, extrusion, assembly, warehouse — totalling ~95,000 sq ft. Medical devices are 78% of Mexico's business and 18% of global Tutamen revenue. The site holds ISO 13485 and operates ISO 7–8 cleanrooms for medical-device assembly; named 510(k)-cleared products are manufactured here daily.

Next: all four plants are consolidating into a new 108,000 sq ft three-floor facility on 158,000 sq ft of purchased land near the Otay border crossing, with die-casting added to the stack. Construction underway; target completion Q2 2027.

THE FOUR PLANTS

Specialised by process, run as one operation

PLANT 01 · 27,000 sq ft

Plastic Injection & Tooling

23 Toshiba and Welltec injection machines spanning 90 to 500 tonnes — 4× 90t, 1× 130t, 1× 150t, 2× 160t, 4× 190t, 1× 250t, 2× 260t, 1× 320t, 4× 450t. All cells equipped with robots and conveyor belts. Portable cleanrooms deployed as programme spec requires. Pantone colour matching and masterbatch creation in-house.

PLANT 02 · 20,000 sq ft

Metal Stamping & Sheet-Metal Fabrication

A complete sheet-metal cell: 2× CNC, turret punch, fibre-optic laser, hydraulic press, press-brake bending, laser spot welding, NCT, and a 5-axis CNC router. Fixture creation in-house. Co-located with the assembly plant so machined and stamped parts flow straight into final build.

PLANT 03 · 54,000 sq ft

Assembly, Decoration & Final Test

The largest of the four plants and the one customers see most. Sub-assembly through final pack — including ISO Class 7–8 cleanrooms for medical-device build and electrode production. Pad print, silk screen, hot foil, and heat transfer all live on the assembly floor; cut-and-sew and electronic sub-assembly fold into the line where the product calls for it.

PLANT 04 · 3,800 sq ft

Polymer Reclamation, Extrusion & Thermoforming

Closes the loop on the injection plant. In-house plastic reconstitution and extrusion turn regrind and trim into usable feedstock; thermoforming runs on the same floor for light-gauge enclosures, trays, and packaging. A sustainability lever that few contract manufacturers of this scale offer in-house.

Plus a 10,000 sq ft warehouse for finished-goods staging and US-border cross-dock logistics.

CONSOLIDATION · IN PROGRESS

Four plants, one building, coming to Otay

158,000 sq ft of land purchased near the Otay border crossing. A new 108,000 sq ft, three-floor facility is under construction to consolidate all four current plants into one operation — with die-casting added to the stack and the cleanroom footprint expanded. $12M investment.

Target completion: Q2 2027
